CEREMONY AND FREE TOURS FOR VETS AS THE BATTLESHIP CELEBRATES VETERANS DAY

CAMDEN WATERFRONT, NJ – Nov. 11, 2013:  The Battleship New Jersey held a wreath ceremony on the forecastle (forward deck) at 11 am today, Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, 2013.  The ceremony, which was free to any guest, featured keynote speaker Col. Edwin W. Simpson, USA (Retired), who was the former Deputy Chief of Staff to Gen. Arnold Schwarzkopf, Jr. and Gen. Fred Franks during Desert Storm.

The ceremony also featured a memorial wreath casted into the Delaware River by Col Simpson and former USS New Jersey crew member Russ Collins, who was stationed on the USS New Jersey during World War II and is currently a maintenance volunteer for the Battleship.  Marines and Sailors from Joint Base – Dix-McGuire-Lakehurst also presented colors and performed a gun salute during the ceremony.

Throughout Veterans Day, veterans from any military branch and any era received a free tour of our nation’s most decorated battleship, which was open for walk-up tours from 9:30am to 3pm throughout the day on Nov. 11.

Located on the Delaware River, along the Camden Waterfront across from the City of

Philadelphia, the Battleship is open for walk-up tours on Saturdays and Sundays in

November and December, as well as some select weekdays, from 9:30am to 3pm.  Come

greet active military and homeless veterans as the Battleship will provide over 250 of these

heroes a full-course turkey dinner on Thanksgiving Day. For more information, call
