Over 3 dozen residents became citizens during holiday weekend

CAMDEN - More than three dozen area residents from 25 countries became citizens during the July 4 weekend.

Nieves Cardinale, director of the Mount Laurel field office of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), administered the oath of allegiance to 38 new citizens at a ceremony aboard the battleship New Jersey museum on the Camden waterfront.

The immigration service selected the battleship as an appropriate ceremony site and intentionally timed it to occur during the waterfront’s Freedom festival marking Independence Day.

The retired ship fought for the cause of freedom in four wars or conflicts and is the most highly decorated U.S. battleship. It was the second time the museum hosted the event.
